Buttons
Wonder what inspired the name?….
The Buttons handmade shoulder bag is the new addition to the stripykat web site. Made in some lovely strong and soft grey felted wool, with angular edges and handmade buttons sewn all over the front.
I have brightened the bag up with a strap in Amy Butler fabric and used a couple of D rings which just finish it off. It’s a great size for keeping all your essentials in and there is an internal pocket to keep your keys and makeup in.
Securely closed with the magnetic fastener this bag will surely brighten up your day and wardrobe.

Shetland Shoulder bag
Introducing the Shetland bag, named as it’s made from a lot of Shetland wool. I have sewn patches of wool fabrics together to create the colourful front of the bag and 100% Shetland herringbone wool for the back and shoulder strap.

Chutney
It’s a first I know but I have had such a good time making this chutney I thought I would share it with you all. It’s actually for a present for someone as you may already know giving handmade is always so much nicer than popping to the high street and buying something mass produced.
Anyway, less of the lecture this chutney is from the book I bought a year ago and I have made a couple of things already from it.
So this is what you need to buy…
- 6 cooking apples, peeled, cored and finely chopped
- 3lbs assorted vegetables, including courgettes, green beans, green tomatoes, chopped up small
- 6 onions, peeled and diced
- 1 red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
- 2 tbsp root ginger, chopped
- 1 stick of cinnamon,
- 2 tbsp honey or demerara sugar
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1tsp course salt
- 1 litre cider vinegar
Divide all the chopped apples and vegetables into three equal piles. Place two-thirds in a large saucepan or jam- making cauldron with all of the other ingredients and bring to the boil
Simmer for 50 minutes before adding the remaining chopped pieces for a final 10 minutes. Remove the cinnamon stick and pour the chutney, using a funnel, into the sterilized glass jars. Close the lids tightly and label.

Great to brighten up your Spring wardrobe the bag has an internal pocket ideal for your make-up, keys and phone and the asymmetrical flap has a magnetic fastener so everything will be kept safe and sound inside.

stripykat is very excited to be part of an up and coming exhibition in the Bonhoga Gallery in Shetland. The exhibition is running throughout March and April and there will be some of stripykat products making their way up to join in.

Patchwork shoulder bag
Patchwork shoulder bag is the latest bag to appear on stripykat. Made from a mixture of woollen fabrics and plaids I sewed the pieces together then top stitched them in green and grey. The back of the bag and the strap is in 100% Sheltland wool in a herringbone design.
It’s a lovely mixture of rich colours from plums, greens and greys. There is an internal pocket in the Shetland wool and the bag is lined in a soft cotton in purple.
I love this bag and I really pleased with the way it turned out so there will definitely be more to follow in this theme.

BBBBRRRRRRR!!
It is that time of year when you think that the worst of the cold weather is going to be over then more comes along to surprise you.
Hot chocolate topped up, cosy cardi and the heating on. stripykat is sewing away trying to bring abit of sunshine to the offering. I am in the process of making three bags, yes three! I have one nearly finished one, sewing buttons on to the other and am cutting out another. Nothing like finishing one thing before moving on to the other. I have so much going on in my head at the moment I am just on creative overload….
Here’s a sneaky preview of one of the bags…..it’s going to be called Patch.
